Contrary to French usage a prepositional object in the active voice can become the subject in the passive voice:
Pirates ask for a ransom
A ransom is asked for by pirates
Many schools deal with the issue of bullying
The issue of bullying is dealt with by many schools
The nurse looked after the children
The children were looked after by the nurse
The middle-aged landladies attended to all his needs
All his needs were attended to by the middle-aged landladies
John has paid for the drinks
The drinks have been paid for by John
Someone has waited for you impatiently
You have been waited for impatiently
The Head had spoken to the families
The families had been spoken to by the Head
Someone will look at the report
The report will be looked at
Modern techniques will cope with the problem
The problem will be coped with by modern techniques
Simon’s parents were caring for him
Simon was being cared for by his parents
We can think of light as both a particle and a wave
Light can be thought of as both a particle and a wave
We may think of a force as a push or a pull in a specific direction
A force may be thought of as a push or a pull in a specific direction
... 😏 Some prepositional transitive verbs can't be used in the passive voice...
